BINGYI SPURLOCK

Bingyi Spurlock (b. 1998, they/them) is a Taiwanese-American artist from Las Vegas, NV currently based inPortland, OR. They hold a BA in Studio Art and a BA in Accounting from Pacific University. Bingyi explores the power of collaboration, viewing it not just as a method of creation but as a reflection of shared narratives and collective memory.

Their work analyzes the impact of traumatic experiences on diasporic identity formation, and how the passage of time distorts emotions and memories.

They are a settler on the traditional homelands of the Multnomah, Kathlamet, Clackamas, Tumwater, Watlala bands of the Chinook, the Tualatin Kalapuya and many other Indigenous nations of the Columbia River. This land is also known as “Portland, Oregon.”

Many of Bingyi’s works are created through free, online generators such as Space Type Generator created by Kiel D. Mutschelknaus and PhotoMosh created by Felix Turner underscoring the democratization of artistic tools and their availability to a broader audience.
